Kai Laitinen, former proffesor of Finnish literature at
Helsinki Univercity and the Author of this work has been one
of the most influential figures in Finnish literary life for several
decades. He has acted, inter alia, as the chief literary critic
in the 1950s for Helsingin Sanomat, the larges Finnish daily newspaper
and as editor-in-chief of Parnasso, the biggest Finnish literary magazine.
He has also been a member of many international bodies concerned
with literary awards and has published several works dealing with
the literature of Finland a well as given lectures on this theme
in different parts of the world.
